Hope Street "Green Street", Downtown Los Angeles

This "green street" is on the corner of Hope Street and 11th Street in Downtown Los Angeles, constructed as part of the Evo development. Rainwater and street water is collected from the roadway and sidewalk, and funneled into the sidewalk planters where it is allowed to infiltrate the soil. Landscape architects were Ahbe Landscape Architects and civil engineers were KPFF.
From a pedestrian point of view it works well. The planters are about 5' wide by 40' long. There is a 4' zone to allow people to exit their cars, and the sidewalk is still an ample 10' wide.
