Hope Street, Downtown Los Angeles

The Ralph's development on 9th Street between Hope Street and Flower Street has created some good street edges. This is one example of the change that has occurred in Downtown LA in the last 5 years. LA actually has some pretty comfortable sidewalks these days complete with outdoor dining and shade!

Santa Paula, California

These residential streets just north of Downtown Santa Paula may not be ideal streets for walking- they have no sidewalks - but the overhanging California Oaks make them beautiful nonetheless.

Portland - Street Car and Bus Stops

A beautiful bus stop....

Portland - Residential

There are so many good examples of residential units fronting onto urban streets (both vehicular and pedestrian) in Portland. Here are just a few. Porches in a setting this urban seem pretty unusual...but they make the street really interesting.

Bikes in Portland

Here's a couple of bike amenities seen in Portland.
1. A "sharrow" embedded in the road surface
2. A very inexpensive method of providing space for bikes

Portland - Pearl District

I spent Christmas in Portland. It did rain for most of the time...but not enough to ruin the experience. Portland is a great walking city. The Pearl District, just north of Downtown, is nothing short of amazing. Urban Renewal at its best!
