There are so many walk streets (or walk steps) in Hong Kong, some narrow and winding and some wide and grand, all lined with residences and stores. Population density in Hong Kong has helped create an intriguing street network.

There are so many of these hidden walks through the hills of the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Silver Lake and Hollywood. They are a welcome relief from the bustle of the rest of the City.

Hope Street "Green Street", Downtown Los Angeles
This "green street" is on the corner of Hope Street and 11th Street in Downtown Los Angeles, constructed as part of the Evo development. Rainwater and street water is collected from the roadway and sidewalk, and funneled into the sidewalk planters where it is allowed to infiltrate the soil. Landscape architects were Ahbe Landscape Architects and civil engineers were KPFF.
From a pedestrian point of view it works well. The planters are about 5' wide by 40' long. There is a 4' zone to allow people to exit their cars, and the sidewalk is still an ample 10' wide.

Williams Esplanade, Palm Cove, Queensland, Australia
This beautiful beach front esplanade in North Queensland blurs the boundary between road and sidewalk. The beach is to the right and apartments and stores line the left side of the street. The paved surface of the street makes traffic speeds very low. The fact that there are no curbs and gutters adds to the relaxed beach front feel.
